OpenOffice.org is an office application package coded open source (open source) that can be obtained free of charge. OpenOffice.org is based on code from StarOffice, an office suite developed by StarDivision and acquired by Sun Microsystems in August 1999, which was later acquired by Oracle in 2010. The source code of the suite was released as open-source project in July 2000, with the aim of breaking the market dominance of Microsoft Office by providing a choice of low-cost, high quality, and open. Original code for this application suite is available under two different software license: LGPL and SISSL; from version 2.0, he is only available under LGPL.
And software project called "OpenOffice", but the project manager reported that this term is a trademark held by another group, thus requiring them to take "OpenOffice.org" as its official name, and also abbreviated as OOo.
